Longevity Studio FAQ’s

I took a Pilates class at a gym and it really hurt my back and neck. Was I doing something wrong?

Yes! Pilates should not hurt in any way. Pilates should be taught one-on-one or in small groups so students can learn how to engage the right muscle groups and work with proper alignment. This bodily re-education will change the way you look and the way you live in your body.

What is the difference between a Pilates equipment and mat session?

Arriving late is distracting to other individuals in the session and to the instructor. We want to keep the focused energy in the room throughout the entire session. Late clients will not be admitted to the class and forfeit their session price.

If it is your first visit to Longevity Studio, please arrive 15 minutes early so that you can meet your instructor, fill out necessary forms and get a quick tour of the studio

What is the difference between Mat and Apparatus work?

Pilates Mat work is a series of systematically layered exercises that utilize the Mat only, no equipment. The equipment can help to provide feedback and support to help find muscles a little deeper faster. The mat work challenge is that the body does all the work on its own.

How often should I do Pilates?

To see meaningful results, we recommend that you train 2-3 times a week, especially in the beginning as you’re learning the fundamentals of the method. With this frequency you will feel and begin to see significant results. Your posture will improve, you’ll gain strength and feel simultaneously more grounded, energized and toned.

What should I wear?

We recommend regular athletic wear. Most people wear sweat pants or leggings with a t-shirt. If you wear shorts we recommend longer “biker” length shorts. In the winter it’s always good to layer so you can shed those layers as the body warms up. You do not need shoes but we do require that you wear socks for your Pilates workout. Any way I can avoid a 24 hour cancellation penalty? The front desk will always try to fill last minute cancellations but short notice makes it difficult.

Do my sessions/purchases expire?

All purchases include an expiration date. The number of days to use a purchase is listed on our Fees and Policies page next to each item.

I’m pregnant. Can I do Pilates?

Yes! Pilates is an excellent form of exercise for pregnant women. Talk to your instructor to develop the best plan for you as you progress through your pregnancy.

I have a shoulder/back/knee injury. Can I do Pilates?

Yes, we know countless modifications for different injuries and limitations. We highly recommend making an appointment for a Private Session before joining group classes in order to learn how to modify exercises appropriately for your condition.

Is free parking available?

Yes, we have plenty of free parking available. Turn into the West Side Flat’s complex and then turn RIGHT into the first parking lot.

Do I need to tip?

Tipping is not customary or necessary for Pilates.
